SkillCorps 2024: A Mission for Autism

Dear friend,

Hope you are having a wonderful day. Today I am reaching out to you to tell you about the next step that I have taken in my life mission.

As you know, I am a bilingual autistic self-advocate. Born and raised on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, Autism came to my life at age 3. I faced different challenges, such as: being nonverbal until age 4, social communication, severe anxiety, repetitive behavior, bullying, depression, among others. But among the challenges, there were also hobbies like the arts, videogames, Star Wars and among others. As I grew, I became more interested in travel and I been fortunate to travel across the United States and gone to destinations like Canada and Spain.

As you have seen through my work, my life mission is to be an advocate for families and individuals that live with Autism. To be their voice and to create awareness, acceptance, and action every day, to help give every human being with Autism and their families the tools and resources to help them achieve a better quality of life. To expand that mission, I have decided to take a new step to expand my mission.

I am proud and honored to announce that I have been accepted to the Skillcorps program for March 2024. I would have the honor and privilege to travel to one of the following countries:

India, Kenya, Rwanda or Ecuador. This program is organized by the Global Autism Project. In this program, I am joining a globally diverse team of like-minded professionals for a weeklong experience to deepen my understanding of global autism services and awareness. While on this trip I will be developing leadership skills by helping to design and complete a World-changing project with a team of peers.

As part of the main requirement to be part of this program, I have to raise funds in order to support my participation in the program. That is why today I am not only asking for your contribution, but more importantly, to join me on this journey and to help me to meet and exceed my fundraising goal of $10,250, which would need to be accomplished by December 27th, 2023.

Anything that you can contribute, whether it is a donation and/or by sharing my fundraising campaign, would be of great help. More than helping me, this is about supporting the program, which has helped families impacted by Autism in different parts around the World.

To contribute, you can do so at my fundraising page:

I would forever be grateful with your contribution. All donations are tax deductible.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Tony Hernandez Pumarejo
